Badge Auto Printing Overview
This feature enables you to automatically print an event participant's badge on an A4 size sheet of paper when you scan their QR code at a QR check-in entry point.
<attention>For the badge auto printing feature to function correctly, you must use a computer's Firefox browser to scan the QR codes. Smartphones, tablets, and non-Firefox internet browsers cannot run the badge auto printing feature.</attention>
1. Creating an Auto Print Enabled QR Check-In Point
Navigate to the event management page's [Basic settings]>[QR Check-In Point] tab and click [Create New] to register a location where participants will be checking in to the event.
Set the check-in point's [Category] field to "Entry" and the [Auto Print] field to "On". Entry check-in points are the only categories with the [Auto Print] field.
Enter a name or description in the [Point details] field, and use the [Check-in period] field to set the window during which this check-in point is active. Click [Create] when finished.
2. Setting Up Your Printer
Connect Your Printer to Your Computer
Ensure the computer you will use to scan QR codes at the entry check-in point has a Firefox browser installed, and ensure the printer for participant badges is set to an A4 paper size.
As printer setup processes vary, please refer to the documentation provided by your device brands for assistance.
Test Your Printer
<attention>In the following configuration step, an option to select a printer will not be displayed. The badge auto print feature will use the most recent printer from your Firefox browser. If the computer you use to scan QR codes is connected to multiple printers, ensure you print a test document with the correct printer before your event.</attention>
You can print a webpage as a test document from your connected computer's Firefox browser. Click the menu button at the top right of your Firefox browser and click "Print..."
Select your destination printer, confirm the following settings, and click [Print].
Field | Selection |
Orientation | Portait |
Paper size | A4 |
Proceed to the next step once you have confirmed the printer settings.
3. Configuring Your QR Code Reader
The following steps will configure your computer's Firefox browser to automatically and efficiently print participant badges.
Open your Firefox browser and enter "about:config" into the address bar.
Click [Accept the Risk and Continue].
Enter the following values into the "Search preference name" bar at the top of the screen, and click the button to toggle their values to [true]. These settings enable the badge auto printing feature to function correctly.
print.always_print_silent
browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackGround
Click the menu icon at the top right of the browser window and click [Settings].
Navigate to [Privacy & Security]>[Permissions]>[Block pop-up windows]>[Exceptions...].
Enter "https://cms.eventhub.jp" into the [Address of website] field and click [Allow].
Confirm the "https://cms.eventhub.jp" website is listed and click [Save Changes].
4. Scanning QR Codes to Print Badges
Use the connected computer and configured Firefox browser to scan QR codes at the entry check-in point.
From the event management page, click [Basic settings]>[QR Check-In Point]>[Copy URL] to access the link to the scanner for the applicable check-in point.
Paste the link into your Firebox browser and enter the accompanying passcode. Click [Start] to activate the camera to scan QR codes.
When a participant's QR code is scanned, their badge, like the one below, will print automatically from the connected printer.
Upon scanning, a participant's "QR Event Checked-in" status on the [User List] will change from "Not yet" to "Checked in".
<tips>Badges will not print if the printer loses power or runs out of paper. Confirm the printer status and its A4 paper size before you start participant check-in.</tips>
5. Additional Notes
- You must connect your computer to the internet to scan QR codes.
- EventHub does not offer rental computers or printers. Please procure these devices in preparation for your event.
- Accessing the QR scanner URL in a browser besides Firefox will display an "Auto Print is not supported with this browser" error. You can still scan QR codes to check in participants to the system, but their badges will not print automatically.
- You can scan and print the same QR code multiple times.
- You can scan and print multiple QR codes back to back.
